ICEP 2009
Ralph Tyler, prominent 20th century innovator in education, is quoted as saying; ‘Learning takes place through the active behaviour of the student; it is what he does that he learns, not what the teacher does’. This combined with Einstein’s quote; ‘I never teach my pupils; I only attempt to provide the conditions in which they can learn’ provides the backdrop for the ICEP 09 conference. The focus for the conference was on ways of creating an engaging learning environment.
Creating an engaging learning environment is crucial for educators today. ICEP 09 addresses the challenge of creating a dynamic and engaging learning environment in which students can most effectively learn by offering an opportunity to share experiences with each other at the forefront of the national and international pedagogical field.
The conference was officially opened by Paul Rellis, Microsoft Ireland MD. Paul provided an excellent opening address which captured the essence of the ICEP 09 theme. John O’Reilly from the Department of Education in University of Limerick gave a wonderful interactive keynote session to start the afternoon events off. The event offered a wonderful opportunity for educators to mix and mingle with national and international colleagues across all disciplines. It was ‘food for the soul’ for the committed and enthusiastic lecturer.
