||While investigating how critical reflection is used by students, I noticed a great degree of variance in how it was being used by their teachers. As a result of this I focused my doctoral research on the reflective practice of academics who use community-based learning as a pedagogy. Because the pedagogy has been used in the USA for over thirty years I visited a number of higher education institutions there. I conducted interviews with academics of different disciplines who use community-based learning. Based on the data I gathered, and the literature already published on the topic I make a number of recommendations regarding how teachers in Irish Higher Education can improve their teaching and research practice.
